Doing a 7-Day Detox is a super way to de-gum your system, jumpstart your weight loss, clear your mind, get better rest, clear your pores, and feel excited about everyday chores. “Ooh, look at those scrubbing bubbles!” Can you imagine?

I’ve outlined a 7-Day Detox based on the one in SKINNY DISH!. Monday is usually a great day to start. Use the Comments section to ask questions and read about other Detoxers’ experiences as you cruise along. As a preview of the week to come, check out Jen is Green who blogged about her 7-day Detox experience, as well as Megha Shah Even’s recap.

And now! All the detox recipes are in 1 handy place! No more excuses!

NOTE: Pregnant and nursing women, children, and folks with chronic diseases can certainly consume a completely plant-based diet and include the foods indicated in a mild detox in their every day. But, they should only do frequent or regular detoxes with blessings from their doc. As with everyone detoxing, a daily multivitamin is recommended to ensure adequate intake of vitamin B12 and vitamin D. This detox is mild enough that simply adding a more substantial breakfast actually makes it a great long-term plant-based plan for most people.

One of the best ways to make the Detox transition much easier and friendly, is to follow the Detox Prep Guidelines. For 3 days leading up to the start of the Detox (Friday, Saturday, & Sunday in this case), do the following:

DETOX PREPARATION
• Phase out caffeine
• Limit portions of meat, dairy, eggs, gluten (wheat, barley, oats [unless they’re gluten-free oats]), and alcohol to no more than 1 serving of each per day
• Completely ditch processed sugar and refined carbohydrates (use agave nectar & stevia to sweeten foods)
• Increase your intake of vegetables and filtered water
• Clean off your appliances (blender/juicer) & take them out for a test drive

DETOX GUIDELINES
• Start the day with a large glass of filtered water with lemon or cucumber slices (in the water, for an extra fresh taste). Add a dash of cayenne for an extra kick in the pants.
• Consume only liquids (green juices, non-dairy smoothies, herbal tea, filtered water) and raw fruits and veggies until noon every day.
• Drink tons of filtered water throughout the day, at least half your body weight in ounces (150 lbs: drink 75 oz. water). No sense in detoxing if the crud can’t ride the river out.
• Eat lots of raw fruits and veggies, preferably organic. The more the better. Allow some raw nuts and seeds (about ½ cup each day) and cooked whole grains (about 2 cups total) spread out throughout the afternoon, but avoid gluten (wheat, barley, and gluten-containing oats) completely.
• About 80% of your diet should be comprised of raw foods, and 20% can be cooked grains, beans, and vegetables.
• Include a daily multivitamin to ensure adequate vitamin B12 and vitamin D intake.
• Avoid all dairy products, meats, fish, sugar, gluten, alcohol, and caffeine.
• Add more green juices and raw foods as needed for energy. Larger servings of grains and nuts can also be added for more fuel if needed.
• Substitute different nuts, seeds, or legumes for allergenic foods.
• Expect a mild headache for the first couple days. But, if you feel extra crummy (beyond headachy), add larger servings of foods within the guidelines or stop the detox and begin again once you’ve done a few more days of Detox Preparation.

Excited? Gather up those reusable shopping bags, here’s the Shopping List for all 7 days, and the MENUS:

Detox Day 1
Detox Day 2
Detox Day 3
Detox Day 4
Detox Day 5
Detox Day 6
Detox Day 7

Now you’re ready! Good luck! 🙂

Any chance of a shopping list for tomorrow? You can’t even get in to the parking lot of my Trader Joe’s on weekends, let alone get shopping done! Would love to do the shopping on Friday…

      • Madeline says:

Hey Jen, I have my copy of SKINNY DISH. I am starting on the Detox on Monday. Can I make my juice the night before? Thanks for your inspiration and strength! I am so glad that you are in our lives! XXOO Maddie

      • Jen Reilly says:

Awesome, Mad! I’m so excited for you! Juice will last in the fridge for 24 hours, but tastes best fresh. When you go to store it in the fridge, store it in a glass jar or container and fill it up to as close to the top as you can–that leaves less oxygen for breaking down the wonderful nutrients. Also, drink it in a martini glass 🙂 Keep me posted! XOXO Love, Jen

    • Jen Reilly says:

      Hey Stephanie,

Exercise is fine, but you be the judge of whether or not you need larger servings of the detox foods for more energy. It also depends on how different your current workout diet is compared to the detox diet plan. In most cases, the detox plus additional raw nuts and seeds, avocado, or whole grains will give you all the uumpf you need for a fantastic workout. Let me know if you have more Qs, and good luck! – Jen

  2. renee says:

really interested in this but really fear the headaches due to no caffine. I have to small kids and I really enjoy that cup of joe in the am. what are your thoughts about allowing 1 cup in the am (with stevia and a non dairy creamer like coconut milk)? Thank you so much.

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Renee! I think the caffeine withdrawal is the biggest challenge for most people. If you can include green tea or black tea for your daily caffeine (which are more alkaline than coffee–coffee is quite acidic and slows down/hinders the detox process), you’d still be way ahead of the game. I have 3 small kids, and totally understand 🙂 But, if you really want the coffee and can stick to the stevia & coconut milk, that’s ok. You’ll still benefit from the healthy, raw foods. Good luck! XOXO Jen

  3. renee says:

thanks for getting back to me, jen. I REALLY love my coffee and some days can consume at least 3 (I know, I know) so I am going to go with the 1 cup. I think if I can keep up with the rest of the 7 day I am good to go! So excited!

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Kim! This detox is probably fine for a 12-yr-old b/c it’s really just a vegan plan which emphasizes raw foods. Since I imagine she doesn’t have time for a morning snack during school, perhaps a more substantial breakfast that falls w/in the guidelines–gluten-free oatmeal with nuts, apple chunks, cinnamon, soymilk, or gluten-free crackers with nut butter and fresh fruit. If she feels hungry, raw nuts and seeds and avocado are great nutrient-dense raw items that fit into any healthy plan. The AM fruit/ juice/ smoothie “fast” is the only thing that would be questionable for a growing kid, but the more substantial breakfast would fix that. Have fun!! XOXO Jen

  4. Krista Haynes says:

OMG Jen, I found you! Cannot believe you are the brains behind the Cooking with Trader Joe’s 🙂 It’s Krista from The Cancer Project back in the day. I love this detox plan; so well thought out. I haven’t done it…YET! I just returned from Bali, Indonesia, where I was working at a wellness retreat and planning detoxes similar to this with some juice-only cleanses for our guests. Cleansing now-a-days is a must. So happy to reconnect. I’ll be following 🙂

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Krista!! So great to see your name and hear from you! My mild Detox is totally doable and even fun! I also love juice-only cleanses, but found that people can do a world of good when they go mostly raw & unprocessed for at least a week (and it sounds less scary than juice-only to most…). Great to be in touch!! 🙂 XOXOXO Jen

  5. Vini aka Pooh! says:

Those who have completed the detox – how did you feel like during and after the detox? Did you see any weight loss? energy gain? etc?

Anyone planning to start the detox end of Feb? I would love to try this one and would like to have a buddy to swap notes and support.

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Vini! Most people have experienced weight loss, a decrease in bloating, more energy, better skin, better sleep, and the disappearance of headaches. I’ll happily round up another 7-Day crew. Start on Monday, Feb 27th? 🙂 Jen

      • Genie says:

Do you find the weight loss to be permanent once you are done the cleanse (obviously not if your diet subsists of twinkies and HoHo’s, but you know what I mean–eating healthy, but eating more)?

      • Jen Reilly says:

        Hi Genie,

People usually maintain 75% of their weight loss after returning to a modified version of their old diet. However, the healthier the plan after the detox, the better results you’ll get. 🙂 – Jen

    • Amanda says:

I’m four days in and I feel great! The first day I felt really horrible (headache, exhausted, etc.) but I knew that was coming so I started on a day that I didn’t need to be highly productive.

I have lost a few pounds and DEFINITELY have more energy. Am thinking about going to 10 days just to really get a really good flush! It was tough the first couple days but once you get going you’ll feel so great.

My main recommendation is to have an emergency snack readily available (i.e. apple in your bag, baggie of baby carrots in the fridge ready to go, snack size baggie of almonds). When I get really hungry my mind starts to wander and I start thinking about unhealthy foods/non-detox foods. If I have a quick snack there that doesn’t take much thought, it kills the craving/hunger pretty quickly.

      Good luck!

    • Jen Reilly says:

Barley, oats, and wheat flour have gluten. Rice, quinoa, corn, and gluten-free oats are more detox-friendly. But, save that barley for some wonderful post-detox soups. It’s loaded with fiber and B-vitamins! 🙂 XOXO Jen

  6. Sara K says:

I would love to start this the second go round. My issue is that in addition to nut allergies (almonds, walnuts – which I can easily circumnavigate given your suggestions) I also have fruit and vegetable allergies (severe enough to have an epi pen on stanby). Any alternatives to cucumbers, celery, carrots, bananas and pineapple?

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Sara! You may want to create your own Detox using the guidelines: Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Egg-free, Vegan, 60-80% Raw, with morning smoothies, juices, fruits, and then more solid meals high in veggies (half your plate) starting around 12:00 PM each day. Good choices for you are broccoli, spinach, kale, collards, cauliflower, mango, apples, pears, peppers, etc… Let me know if you need more help! XOXO Jen

  7. Renee' says:

hello, I’m new to this and really need help. I’m a very picky eater so alot of things that are good for me i don’t really like. so do u have any ideas for me? thanks for your help.

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Renee! Let’s start with what healthy foods you DO like, and go from there. What veggies, fruits, beans, whole grains, and nuts/seeds will you eat? Looking forward to getting you on a super healthy path! xoxo Jen

  8. Stacey says:

Thank you for sharing this – the shopping list alone is so helpful. A couple of questions: 1) can you freeze the cucumber slices to use them as ice cubes in your water? 2) Can I substitute mint for parsley in the morning smoothies? Thanks!

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Stacey! Great questions! I’ve never frozen cucumber slices, but I bet you could for the water–let me know when you try it. And yes, absolutely swap mint for parsley if you prefer. Parsley is extra high in antioxidants, but mint has it’s own benefits too 🙂 Good luck! xoxo Jen

  9. liz says:

We are 2 weeks away from the start of our detox. Caffeine (soda) withdrawal is my biggest concern. How do you survive the withdrawal symptoms without hurting someone (your spouse)? I’ve never tried tea. Any suggestions?

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Liz, I hear ya! My kids often get up at 5AM and caffeine is my lifeline! You can still include some caffeine and the detox will be quite effective. But, instead of soda, you might try unsweetened iced green tea (like this one found at Whole Foods: http://www.honesttea.com/tea/64oz/just_green_64/), or very mildly sweetened green tea (like this one, also found at Whole Foods: http://www.honesttea.com/tea/glass/community_green/). But, if you want to wean off caffeine and really go for it, I’d start now, decreasing your soda caffeine by 4 ounces every other day. Before the detox, you can replace those 4 ounces with caffeine-free soda, and then when the detox starts, you can get your bubbly satisfaction with seltzer water with orange, lime, or lemon wedges. Best of luck with the route you choose and keep me posted! XOXO Jen

  10. Payal says:

I am so excited to get started! Went to Trader Joe’s this morning, and got almost everything I’ll need. Thanks Jen, for this awesome detox idea! Can’t wait to get started.:-)

  11. Jaime says:

How many slices of cucumber in the water and do you eat them afterwards? I apparently am preparing to survive starvation- I want to eat every last bite I can. Also, how much cayenne in the water? A shake or two? Thanks!!! I start tomorrow. It will be a miracle if I can do it- I have never used an ounce of moderation in my life.

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Jaime! The cucumbers in the water are just meant to make it taste more refreshing. You can certainly eat them, but there’s A LOT of cucumber water during the week, so be warned that you may never eat another cucumber again. Just a dash or two of cayenne. You can totally do this and you’ll feel amazing afterward!! Keep me posted. xoxo Jen

  12. Julie says:

I’m late on the bandwagon- its day 3 for me (Saturday start). I’m following the guidelines, but not the menu so far. I was curious since there are times rice crackers are suggested, could you have a trail mix of raw nuts and gluten free rice chex as a snack? Or are those not suggested as they are processed? I’ve also been cheating with one serving of green tea a day- its hard enough to see my husband make coffee everyday and the kids eat stuff I can’t! Do they cravings subside? I feel full after I eat, but not really satisfied. (Probably not helping that I keep going to preschool birthday parties that have cake and snack food!)

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Julie! Trail mix or rice chex are totally fine for snacks. And no prob on the green tea. Yes, the cravings will subside — the first few days are the hardest, but add more nuts, seeds, and avocado to meals for satisfaction. So proud of you! xoxo Jen

      • Julie says:

Is evening snacking totally off limits? I have been hungry around 9- maybe because I’m used to snacking. Tonight I’m cheating with half a frozen banana. I’ll try to be better tomorrow 🙂

    • Madeline Mcginty says:

Sean has been on a detox of Joel furhman for three weeks and has lost 15 pounds and has one week to go

      Sent from my iPad

  13. Rachel K. says:

I haven’t read through all of the comments, so I hope this hasn’t already been said. I am not too concerned, but I want to make sure I don’t faint while trying this. I am a sugar addict and I really need to drop those cravings, increase my veggie cravings, and while I’m at it I would love to lose a few pounds! I am a massage therapist doing 20-30 massages a week all the while working out for at least 30 minutes 4-5 days a week (mixes of strength training and cardio). I need to have energy and stamina so is this a detox that will leave me feeling weak? If so, are there things that I could do to make it so I don’t? Any advice would be helpful. 🙂 Thanks!

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Rachel! This detox has about 1500 calories each day. How you’ll feel during it depends greatly on how your diet is beforehand. Keep extra raw nuts, fruit, and other snacks that stay within the detox guidelines on hand for times when you’re feeling hungry. You can also eat larger portions of the meals if need be. Keep me posted and good luck! xoxo Jen

  14. James says:

Hi Jen! Just came across your diet and it really looks great. I plan to start on Monday 2/25/13 and cant wait to see and feel the results. Thanks for the shopping list! It really simplifies the shopping experience. Unfortunately we do not have a Trader Joes in South Georgia 😦

    • Jen Reilly says:

Dried fruit is ok only if you’re having a major sweets craving and might choose something else… Dried fruit is high in sugar, so best to avoid during the detox. Good luck! xoxo Jen

  15. Joanna Evans says:

    Hi Jen,
I’m really excited to start this detox on Monday. I live in Belize which means that there are a lot of ingredients that are not available at our grocery stores. For example, we can’t get kale but we grow a lot of arugula. Is that ok to substitute? Also, we don’t grow berries in Belize and only the odd grocery store imports the frozen ones…what other fruits might I be able to substitute for snacks? We have lots of citrus, bananas, melons, papaya, mango, and pineapple, and we can get apples pretty easily. I’ve also not seen quinoa in the stores here. Can I just substitute with brown rice? Thanks for your help!

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Joanna! Apologies for the delay in replying — I was on travel. Yes, on all those substitutions. Totally fine! Let me know how you are doing! – XOXO Jen

  16. Alison Calhoun says:

Hi Jen! Starting my detox tomorrow! The meal plans for each day… Are those portions for two people, or one? I saw that you wrote on the shopping list page that it is the amount for two detoxers. – thanks! Alison

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Alison! A little late, but the meals are generally for 2+ people, which I’m sure you discovered by now! I generally cook every other day and eat the same thing for 2 days in a row (aside from the smoothies which I make fresh each day). Hope you enjoyed it! – Jen

  17. Cory says:

I am on the last day of the detox and while i feel great and my skin has never looked better I still feel bloated in the lower abdomen and everytime i eat on the detox it gets even worse…any idea why this is? I want to do this detox monthly but it seems to be doing the opposite of what i want for my figure :/

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Cory! It could be the mass amount of raw veggies — go with more steamed/ cooked veggies, and fewer beans/ more nuts for protein and see how that sits? 🙂 Jen

  18. angie says:

Im very interested in doing a detox for a better more healthier me but about how much money do you think it would cost for the ingredients? I want to be as much prepared if i am goiing to be committed

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Angie, the fresh, organic produce is pricey, but it’s not terribly expensive. Maybe $15 a day max? Just a guess… You can rely on more frozen fruits and veggies if you want to save cash, without losing the detox’s effectiveness 🙂 XOXO Jen

  19. shelleyjacksonunt says:

Hi Jen! This detox looks fantastic! Can’t wait to get started. I’ve been looking for one for a while with a grocery list and menu plan 🙂 Question, is the whole plan dairy free? I saw almond milk on there but I was pretty sure that was the only “dairy”. On the plan, will you be getting calcium from other sources?

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Shelley! There’s a good bit of calcium, but probably not enough if you’re going to do it for more than 7 days. It’s meant to be a short-term deal, but you can certainly add a calcium supplement with Vitamin D. Enjoy! – Jen

  20. imjuzsaying says:

Listen im 215 5’4 and I wanna lose 40 pounds in 40 days I don’t wanna hear about how unhealthy it is because me being this size is unhealthy so I need help nowwwww I power walk 5 miles a day I also do 500 crunches and im on a 700 calorie a day diet but it don’t seem to be working ughhhhhhhhh I just wanna SCREAMMM I’m ready to see results.

    • Jen Reilly says:

The 7-Day Detox is great way to jump start a weight loss plan. You may lose 4 pounds in a week, but hopefully not more than that. For the long haul, weight loss is a true test in patience. For 40 lbs, the fastest that should really happen is within 20 weeks (4 1/2 months). You’ll see results, you just have to focus on the seemingly dim light at the end of the tunnel at first! xoxo – Jen

    • charlotte says:

Do the detox, then do very intense HIIT workouts. There is a popular DVD series for that, but I won’t endorse it bc I haven’t tried it myself. You do want to make sure to eat *at least* 1200 calories every day. Trying to eat less than 1200 calories is part of the reason people yoyo in weight during extreme diets.

If you tell your body you might be literally starving, then when you try to eat normal again, your body starts storing up fat for the next “famine”.

This detox at 1500 calories is a good one to try to stick to. Dieting at less calories can make you even bigger, in the long run, unless you tried to maintain that low level of calories for the rest of your life, which is called anorexia.

  21. kabbsy says:

Hi, this is a great post, lots of excellent information here. Well done. For anybody who wants more info about a 7 day cleanse, then check out this post at http://kosmic-kitchen.com/7-day-cleanse/ There is loads of information in the ebook including menu plans and shopping lists, plus phone and email support to make sure you finish the cleanse and hit your targets. Highly recommended!

  22. Missy says:

    Hi,

Thanks so much for all this information – the detox menu looks good and I am thinking of trying it out but I am curious about the cost? The shopping list looks extensive and I don’t want to waste any food so I am wondering if the amounts suggested are for one person and does the shopping list cover just the 7 days? Thanks so much – Missy

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hi Missy, The menu makes a good bit of food — too much sometimes, depending on how many people are detoxing with you. I’d recommend taking it day by day — you may have enough leftovers from day 1 for days 2 & 3. Also, feel free to make your own menu based on the guidelines. I generally eat green salads with beans and raw nuts for lunch most days. Good luck! XOXO

  23. Blayke says:

    Hi Jen-

I haven’t read through all of the comments, so I apologize if someone has already asked this. I am juggling work and graduate school, and have a very crazy schedule. Do the meal plans need to be followed chronologically, or could I potentially mix my meals (or just swap the days) up to better suit my circumstances?

Thanks for all of the tips; so excited to start!

    -Blayke

    • Jen Reilly says:

Oh goodness! Sorry that I missed your question so long ago, Blayke! I hope by now you’ve realized that you can make up your own detox based on the guidelines, and you can eat recipes multiple times. I just made the plan for people who wanted EXTRA guidance and tons of variety. When I do the detox, I eat basically the same lunch day-to-day: Arugula with tempeh, raw almonds, olive oil, and rice vinegar. Good luck!

  24. stephchadevlin says:

why is there an emphasis on raw nuts, rather than roasted nuts? is there really much of a nutritional difference? regarding taste, roasting nuts enhances their flavor, so they are tastier than raw nuts.

    • Jen Reilly says:

Raw nuts contain more natural enzymes and the healthy fats aren’t changed in any way as is what happens during roasting. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some roasted nuts. Just during the detox, it’s best to get as much food in its raw form as possible. Raw cheers! xoxoxo

  25. Mirei says:

Hi I realise that skin and diet. I have pretty bad forehead acne but I don’t understand because I eat pretty dam healthy I’m talking organic stir fries with tofu and brown rice and soaked quino porridge with soy milk and fresh organic fruit ( also I hardly eat any meat and dairy). So why is my face covered in them?

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hi Mirei, Sometimes skin breakouts happen when you’re detoxing, and it’s only temporary. Sounds like you’re eating the right kind of diet for healthy skin, although other acne triggers include oils and sugar. Check out my post here for 5 tips for healthy skin. Supplementing with Omega-3 fatty acids and adding more colorful veggies may help too! – xoxo Jen

  26. Robin says:

Hi! I have a question. I’m really interested in trying this detox! I’m a vegetarian and transitioning vegan so the diet is fine. My question is about the time line. I’m in college so some of the meal times, mostly between the hours of 12-3pm, I’m in class and can’t eat lunches. What should I do during those hours of class?

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Robin, Great question! I’d eat lunch around 11am if you can and have a snack between classes during the 12-3 period… something simple for a snack like a Larabar or Pure Energy Organic Bar plus a piece of fruit. Or, perhaps some trail mix or hummus/veggies/rice crackers combo. Let me know how it goes! xoxo – Jen

  27. Kristin Huebner says:

Hi! So excited to start tomorrow. I have a whole week to detox and spend on ME! Thanks so much for the fantastic website and guidance 🙂 Is there anyone else out there starting this week? I would love a penpal or two!

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Kristin, How’d it go? I usually lead the detox with thousands every January. It’s a blast! I’ll happily detox with you, however, ANY time! Just let me know if you do it again 🙂 – Jen

  28. Kate Cottrell says:

So, I started the detox today. I live in Colombia and the berries that I was able to get are terribly sour. There are plenty of fruits in Colombia – but berries are definitely not common and not so tasty. Are there fruits I can substitute for the berries?

  29. Karina says:

Just curious, the time frames listed in the detox are a general guide? Or are they strict and stringent? Also, can I continue to drink water whenever, or just the prescribed times? I would assume the main point of the detox is to flush the system, no? Thank you.

    • Jen Reilly says:

Karina, You’re legit questions got buried in comments full of spam. So sorry! You got it right, the prescribed times are not strict, just flush flush flush! 🙂 – Jen

  30. sabrinabrooks says:

I am planning on starting the detox on this up coming Monday and was wondering if homemade dressings can be used on the salads (lemon juice, etc)?

  31. Claire says:

Hi, I am on day 1 of this detox 🙂 I am just wondering if its normal to be using the bathroom a LOT more than usual? I guess its because I am drinking much more water than I normally would? Also I feel a bit dizzy and tired, again I presume that’s normal, and due to sugar withdrawal (I am normally a sugar fiend!)?

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hi Claire! How are things now? The bathroom visits and tiredness are normal, but I don’t like the dizziness… it could be too few calories going in or because the detox is a radical change from your norm. Did you do the 3-day pre-Detox prep? -Jen

      • Claire says:

Hi Jen, I had to give up the detox as by the 2nd day the dizziness was really bad. I am keep to try again though because (dizziness aside) I felt great! I didn’t realise there was a pre-detox prep, I’ll try that starting from tomorrow. Do you have link for it please?

      • Claire says:

Oops, just seen it above, so ignore the last comment! I always find that as soon as I severely limit my sugar intake I get the dizziness. Do you think this may be something that I just have to get through and it’ll pass? I should say that I also workout 4x a week at the gym, so should I be adding more calories? Sorry for so many questions, I am just really keen to do the detox and want to find the best way for me.

      • Jen Reilly says:

Sounds like you need more carbs before and after your workouts during the detox. As best you can, make those carbs fresh fruit or dried fruit, and then follow-up with some protein-rich foods like raw nuts and seeds. Good luck!

  32. Tipton says:

Started today!! Waa hoo!! I have a crazy skin issue and hoping this helps to get me on the road to recovery. After two years on every steroid cream known to man I still have skin issues. After perusing the internet for my own “cure”, I finally understand it’s what I’m eating that’s causing the problem. Why didn’t the docs just say stop eating junk and eat more veggies. AARRGGHH!!!Thanks for this very descriptive Detox plan. I’m on the road to healthier living.

  33. Victoria says:

    Hi Jen,
I would really like to follow your 7-day detox to start off the new year, but when I click on the links to the recipes I get “page not found” for almost all of them. Sometimes I’ve been able to search on the cooktj.com site and find them, but this doesn’t always work. Can you help?

I’m on day 1 of the 7-day detox today. It’s going well (although I wouldn’t mind a giant chocolate cake right now). I thought the mango salad was delicious. Looking forward to seeing if this can help me get over my sugar addiction–and motivate me to give up crappy processed foods. Thank you for the meal plan! What do you suggest after the 7 days? I’m a meal plan kind of person–mostly because it gets me to try foods that I normally wouldn’t try. Thanks!

    Hi Jen,

I’m giving this a go, I’m good for the suggested snacks but due to time constraints/laziness, meals will most likely be stir fried vegetables and brown rice…

I’ve always like a bit of spice with my meals, as Tabasco sauce is gluten free and dairy free I’m guessing I can add a splash of this?

    Thanks,

    Gavin

Hi Jen! Checking if it’s OK for someone who has migraine to do the detox? Also subbing red grapes for the green ones and cherries for the strawberries? Thanks!

    • Jen Reilly says:

Yes! Should be fine on the grapes and with migraines. A tolerable headache is normal on days 1-3, but if it’s worse than tolerable, you may need to take a few more days of detox prep before going full throttle. Cherries are way sweeter than strawberries so I would try other berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries) instead of the strawberries, or apple, pear, or citrus fruits over cherries. Cherries are OK, but avoiding the concentrated sugars will help you to cleanse more effectively. It’s hard to say no to cherries this time of year though. They are AMAZINGLY delish!! Good luck! xo Jen

Hi Jen, I really like this detox and started on Saturday but found the shopping list confusing (not to mention scary for my husband who did the shopping) as the recipes are for four people doing the detox. I suspect that more people do individual than family detoxes so might be helpful to adjust the shopping list and recipes for one portion. I think I’ll do that for myself anyway if I can find the time as I would like to come back to the week detox from time to time. Thanks for posting though – I’ve not been able to follow to the letter because of time constraints but have already felt the benefits.

      • Georgy Evans says:

Thanks for your reply, Jen. I’ve also done some amendments for being on the other side of the pond (metric and generally measuring stuff by weight rather than volume) and am happy to send to you if that would be helpful. On Day 5 and feeling much more svelte and calm! A big thank you to you!

  39. Georgy Evans says:

Day 7 and feeling fantastic! Lots more energy and focus, and finding it easier to keep regular hours (eating, sleeping). Skin has cleared and the dark shadows under my eyes have cleared for the first time in many years. My H noted that my mood is much more even and upbeat. This detox is a keeper. Genius Jen! Thank you.

    • Jen Reilly says:

That makes me so happy, Georgy! Glad you had the guts to try this — hopefully the benefits will continue! Hey, perhaps just post a few of your metric conversions in the Comments for other folks trying to convert? Thanks!! xo Jen

Hi Jen, I don’t know if you will see this, but if you do, HELP! 🙂 After years of being on the skinny side, and not having to worry about what I was eating, I have put on almost 40lbs in the past two years. (Stress/sleeplessness/progesterone for menstrual problems, etc.) Nothing seems to work – not exercising (I get in three miles a day, every day, coupled with an hour of strength training/cardio 5 days a week), not eating healthily/moderately. I’m at wits’ end, and then I came across this blog.

I’m going to try this plan and see if it will kick start a weightloss. I noticed that your shopping list /menus are for more than one person. I noticed someone else said that above as well. Did you ever make a change to the original list/recipes so they would be just right for one person? If so, where can I find them? Sorry for the trouble, and I hope you see this.

    • Jen Reilly says:

Hey Anu! Of course your important message got buried and I’m just seeing it now! Please let me know how you’re doing and hopefully you tried the detox with success! 🙂 xo

Hi Jen, this may sound a silly question but I’ve never really eaten grains/beans/pulses etc. In the diet plan, when you put 1/2 cup of quinoa/rice etc, is this before or after cooking? I’ve just done Day 1 and felt as though 1/2 cup of lentils and 1/2 cup of quinoa was such a big portion for the evening meal! Thanks!

  42. Georgy Evans says:

Hi Jen, I have now done a shopping list for one person doing the detox and also put together the list in UK measurements. Very happy to send or upload but not sure how to do this. Back on the detox this week and have really been looking forward to it! Thanks again.

I’m a big fan of protein powders or 2 tablespoons hemp seeds in smoothies. Plantfusion vanilla is one of my favorites. Just make sure it’s plant-based and low-sugar. xo
