Detox Day 4: Treat Yourself with a Raw Dessert

No doubt you’re feeling pretty excited that it’s Day 4. You’re now officially a detoxing professional!

To celebrate, treat yourself with this yummy chocolate pudding. You may not have appreciated or tasted all it’s wonderfulness on Monday, but today you definitely will! Add a splash of agave nectar on a non-detox day for more sweetness. Mmm mmm mmm!!

Chocolate Chia Pudding

Chocolate Chia Pudding

Chocolate Chia Pudding
Serves 1

1/2 of a banana, mashed
2 Tbsp chia seeds
1/4 cup non-dairy milk (I used unsweetened soy)*
1/2 teaspoon raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes to let the pudding thicken. Enjoy!

Nutrition Info: 196 calories, 9.5 g fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 23.5 g carbohydrate, 10 g fiber, 7.5 g sugar, 6.5 g protein, 9% vitamin C, 7.5% vitamin D, 22% calcium, 11% iron, 8% zinc.

*Non-dairy milk is really truly only raw if you make it yourself from raw nuts or seeds. Cocoa powder isn’t raw, but it works well here and is more readily available.

Many of you have asked about calories. Check last year’s Day 4 post all about calories. Each Detox day has about 1500 calories at a minimum, 60-80 grams of protein, and around 50 grams of fiber. Adding extra servings of nuts, seeds, avocado, fruit, etc. increases all those numbers.

Today’s Plan including a 2-cup serving of Purple Nurple, a 2-cup serving of Curried Lentil Stew, and all the other recommended serving sizes has 1459 calories, 61 grams of protein, and 49 grams of fiber. The average American gets about 12 grams of fiber a day. You may or may not have been the average American prior to this Detox. Regardless, you are moving some serious crud out of your system. Cheers to crud movement!!

So, March On!, and clean, cleanse, and recharge your core some more. Just a few days left!

    Hi Everyone,

    Day 3 went well. Since I was at a potluck dinner on Day 2, I ate the Carrot Ginger soup last night, which I really liked. This morning’s Purple Nurple was another hit at our house. One of my favorite aspects of the Detox is all the berries we are eating! I love berries but don’t usually buy them fresh in the winter due to prices. I just finished my pears which were perfectly ripe today! As a result of all the fruit we’re eating, I am not even noticing the absense of refined sugar in my diet, which is awesome.

    I didn’t have time to cook my beets and make tofu feta, so today’s lunch will be another large tossed salad with leftover kidney beans. I’m looking forward to the curried lentil soup tonight – I made it on Sunday but have been waiting to eat it (hopefully hubby hasn’t finished it)!

    Feeling good and having fun doing this Detox with a friend at work. One question, has anyone experienced emotional detoxing? I noticed that on the first day and part of the second day, I felt kind of sad. The feeling has passed, but just wondered if it could have anything to do with the Detox.

      Hey Kelly (and Everyone)

      I find it interesting that you are wondering about emotional detox. While I had a “clean day”, I couldn’t bring myself to whip up another smoothie, much less anything else that was on today’s scheduled menu…..just kind of blah day for me food wise. I had to force myself to eat my large kale salad for dinner. I still need to keep up with my water intake, but the increased peeing is driving me crazy and annoying me today for some reason.
      Tomorrow is another day to give it a go….

        Hey Karen! This happens all the time. The novelty wears off and you get tired of all the food prep. Make Day 5 a really easy one – instead of all the foods you have to prepare, find things that fit in the detox that require minimal prep — go out and buy a can of Progresso Lentil Soup and add frozen mixed veggies. Snack on rice cakes with almond butter. Steam some frozen broccoli or green beans. If you can, buy a bottled smoothie for this morning. Also, try to get a bit of exercise today. That usually helps your “excitement” 🙂 I’ll be thinking of you! – Jen

      Kelly, This happens to me every time! I get a heightened mix of anger, sadness, and weepiness, especially in the beginning. Maybe TMI, but I started to tear up at the eye doc on Monday when there was something weird going on with my health insurance. It was so out of character for me! Anyway, it will pass, and it’s a great sign that the detox is working. Here’s a cool article on emotional detoxing:

    I found I had so many leftovers that by day 4 and 5 I was able to make life easier by eating leftovers from the days before. I think i ate the lentil soup 3 days in a row for lunch or dinner. It was so yummy! I ate the tofu feta cheese beet walnut salad 2 days in a row.
